Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) who was born in Vienna, is seen as one of the main protagonists of art nouveau. Klimt's best work is considered to have been in the heyday of the Vienna Secession (the years between 1898 and 1905) of which Klimt was a founding member and the first president.
